The Ledlenser MH7 offers a maximum output of 600 lumens white light from a single Xtreme LED and has a beam range of up to 200 metres on the boost setting.
The white light cycles through the four constant settings of low, mid, high, strobe and then off with each press. If in any setting for longer that 5 seconds, the next press will turn the head torch off. The boost mode is momentary and is turned on by double pressing the button within 5 seconds in any state. After 10 seconds the boost will revert back to the previous output or off if it was activated with the light off.
The MH7 also features a red light which is useful for low level lighting, preserving the users night vision and animal spotting. The white and red light can be switched between by holding the button down on the top of the torch for 3 seconds in any state. Once in the red mode each press turns the red light and and off.
When the light is first turned on, the battery indicator will display a green, yellow or red light for 2 seconds to show the charge status of the battery so that you know when it needs charging. If the battery is very low, the white light will blink four times while in use.
The light can be focused from a flood beam to a spot beam by twisting the focusing bezel outwards and the hinged bracket allows the MH7 to be swivelled within a 60° angle so that you can position the light where you need it. The torch can be taken off the bracket / head band and used hands free.
The MH7 is powered by a lithium-ion battery pack which is included, but it can also use two AA alkaline batteries as a back up if you run out of charge (the run-times will be different when using different battery types). To install or change the batteries the head lamp firstly needs to be removed from the bracket. The battery cover can then be popped open so that you can put in the rechargeable lithium-ion battery or two non-rechargeable AA alkaline batteries.
To charge the lithium-ion battery you need to connect one end of the included cable to the charging point on the underside of the head lamp and the standard USB at the other end plugs into a computer or compatible USB adaptor (not included). The battery indicator light will turn red to show charging is in progress and will go green once charging is complete. If the battery is inserted the wrong way round or you attempt to charge AA batteries the indicator light will blink red/green to show there is a problem.
To prevent accidental activation in transit the MH7 can be put into a lockout state by holding down the button for 5 seconds from off until either light blink four times rapidly. To unlock the torch hold the button down again for 3 seconds until the light first blink twice, followed by four blinks.
A choice of constant current mode or energy saving mode is available and they will each offer different outputs and run-times. They are changed between by firstly putting the torch into lockout mode and then holding down the button for 7 seconds. The light will either come on at 100% power and decrease until off to indicate energy saving, or it will come on at 5% and increase to 100% before turning off to indicate constant current. The light is defaulted to energy saving mode.
A great head torch for everyday use and activities such as climbing, camping and hiking.
